Version 1

Version 2

Version 1

Version 1 of the Digital Camera Utility is a simple program that renames ALL files within a specified folder to your desired name.  For example if you chose a folder called pics and your desired name was "Disney World" then all the files in the pics folder will be renamed to Disney World 01, Disney World 02, and so on.

Version 1 is an executable file and does not have an install program.  When you double click on the file (rn.exe) the program runs and asks you to select a folder.  This is where you select the folder which contains the files you want to rename.

It then asks you the desired name.

It then asks you to confirm.  Remember, ALL files in your specified folder will be renamed so please be sure before continuing.

Version 1 is a simple utility but if you're looking for more features, please install Version 2.

Digital Camera Photo Utility Documentation

Overview:  The purpose of this application is to rename selected files consecutively and was developed with digital photos in mind but can be used with all types of files.

For example:

If you have 20 photos you took while you were at Disney World, in this software you can choose the photos, specify "Disney World" as the desired file name and it will rename those 20 photos to: Disney World 1, Disney World 2, Disney World 3, all the way up to Disney World 20.  You also have the capability of choosing only selected files, modifying the renaming order and starting counter. Since it keeps the file extensions intact, the software maybe used to rename files other than photos like .mp3, .mpg, .doc, etc.

 Installation:

  • Software requirements: Windows 95, 98, NT, ME, 2000, XP

  • On Windows 95,NT, it is required that you have at least Internet Explorer 4.0 installed.

  • If you are using NT, 2000, or XP, you must have local administrative rights.

To install, double click on the file you saved after completing your order.

  • It will check to see if you have a component called Windows Installer installed.  If it is not installed, it will install it automatically and may require a reboot.
If the installation does not continue automatically after reboot, please run setup again, and installation of the Digital Camera Photo Renamer will continue.

  • If Windows Installer is installed (if you have Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, you have it already..) then the installation for the Digital Camera Photo Renamer will launch.  Follow the instructions on screen, by accepting default prompts such as Yes, Next, Ok, and Close.

  • Upon installation completion, a shortcut will be created on your desktop.

Software usage:

Troubleshooting:

  • If during installation, you get an error message about a file called scrun.dll is in use, ignore the error message.  The software installation will continue and will not be affected.  Make sure you have at least Internet Explorer 4.0 installed.

  • During installation, you get error message about not being able to find .msi file, or msi file is not valid win32 software.  This will happen with the download version if the setup program can't find the necessary files.  It usually happens if you don't have the temp environment variable defined.  To work around, either define a temp variable pointing to some folder or extract the downloaded file from within Winzip and run setup.exe manually.

  • Your selected files were not renamed and appear in the "failed" section of the status report.  Files fail to rename if target file already exists, source file is in use, or you don't have write permissions to that folder.

  • I want to access files from a network drive and I don't see an option to browse network.  You will need to map a drive to desired network drive and it will show up after you restart the program.

Removing the software:

  • You may remove the software, by going to control panel / add-remove programs and double clicking Digital Camera Photo Renamer
Support:
